Strategic Plan Goal Area 1: Safe and Thriving
Strategic Plan Outcome: All identities are valued and every student is included.
Strategic Plan Measure: % of students reporting they feel safe, welcome, and accepted at school.
School “SMART” Goal (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timely): By the end of the 2023-24 school year, 80% of McKinley students will report, as measured by a K-5 school-wide assessment, they feel “safe, welcome, and accepted” at school.
Strategic Plan Strategy: Teams in each building meet regularly to examine social-emotional, academic, attendance and discipline data for students.
- Action: Create K-5 pre and post-assessments to identify and intervene with students who currently do not feel “safe, welcome and accepted” at school
- Action: Examine student attendance data, identify students with attendance below 90%, facilitate outreach and engagement of parents/guardians regarding non-regular attendance with tiered support
- Action: Grade-level collaboration meetings focused on examining student data, instructional practices, professional development and targeted academic and behavioral interventions

Strategic Plan Outcome: Each student demonstrates proficiency on language and literacy targets by the end of third grade
Strategic Plan Measure: % of 3rd graders demonstrating proficiency on the state Language Arts assessment
School “SMART” Goal (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timely): During the ‘23-24 school year, ALL McKinley students in regular attendance (>90%) will demonstrate no less than one year’s growth in language and literacy targets, as measured by the IRLA and/or available leading indicators, including but not limited to CORE Screener, Progress Monitoring Data, LETRS Spelling Screener Data, Heggerty Assessment Data, and EasyCBM.
Strategic Plan Strategy: Research-based systematic balanced literacy components including phonics and phonemic awareness curriculum and instruction
- Action: Professional development, collaboration and lesson studies focused on instructional practices in the area of literacy, specific to phonemic awareness and phonics
- Action: Examine student progress data during morning collaboration and Collaboration for Learning and Student Success (CLASS) days to determine instructional supports
- Action: Habits of Mind exposure, professional development and incorporation into literacy instruction
